Alejandra Carrillo
Alejandra Carrillo (b. 1999, Liberal, Kansas) is a Chicana artist, curator, and educator of Chihuahuense heritage based in Indianapolis, IN. Her printmaking and multimedia work documents a Midwestern lens on Mexican-American storytelling and collective experience. She aims to bridge the gaps among traditional Mexican heritage, the contemporary Chicano movement, and the current undocumented Latine resistance to promote Brown unity, joy, and generational healing. Alejandra Carrillo earned her BFA and BAE from the IUI Herron School of Art and Design. Carrillo has exhibited at the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Indiana State Museum, the Newfields Indiana Museum of Art, and the Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis, among others. More notably, she has developed a permanent mural for the Indianapolis Mexican Consulate and completed a printmaking residency with Hello, Print Friend in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
